For the foreseeable future, I am available as a guide for private Kauai Photography Tours. I’ve been living and working on Kauai as a photographer, a writer, and an artist since 2008. How did I wind up here on this tiny, enchanted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? Good question! :)
I was born and raised along the Pacific coast by Santa Monica, California. I studied at U.C. Berkeley and U.C.L.A. where I received a degree in English Literature, and I’ve been working with visual art as a photographer and artist for over thirty years. My photography career began in Los Angeles shooting fashion, fitness, editorial, entertainment, and some architecture.
In August 2008, upon desiring a change of scenery and new inspiration, I moved to the beautiful Hawaiian island of Kauai where I quickly felt awestruck by the colorful, vibrant landscapes, and the dreamy variations of light and weather which playfully danced around them. Exploring the island felt like such a gift and an incredible photographic opportunity. With my camera in hand, I wandered from rugged coastlines and secluded beaches to stunning mountain ridges and canyon vistas. From trails through lush, tropical jungles, and along peaceful rivers and streams leading to waterfalls, I explored Kauai with feelings of elation, wonder, and gratitude. I marveled at the exotic variety of flowers, plants, and trees, and the many species of birds and wildlife. I frequently found myself amazed by the dynamic, ever-changing skies. Kauai’s sunrises and sunsets can be absolutely spectacular.
Over the years, I continued working as a photographer on Kauai doing a variety of portraits, beach weddings, and a wide range of architecture and real estate. I also worked part-time as a guide with a photography tour business called “Kauai Photo Tours.” In that role as a guide, I learned how to share the island’s beauty with all levels of photographers and non-photographers alike in different ways that matched their personal interests and physical capabilities.
I’ve been leading my own private Kauai Photography Tours for years now, which I greatly enjoy. I still feel a deep sense of wonder and awe while exploring the epic landscapes of Kauai, and I appreciate sharing the beauty of this special island with other people who are curious and seeking inspiration. I also like teaching and discussing aspects of photography for those who want to learn, and for those who are more advanced on their photography journeys, I’m happy to help guide them to inspiring and unique Kauai locations.
Does that explain how I wound up on the enchanted isle of Kauai? Maybe... What I do know for certain is that I’m grateful to be here.
